Sensex ends down 615 points at 14,936; Nifty ends down 183 points at 4,346

Mirroring weak trend in the global market the Sensex opened with a negative gap of 207 points at 15,344, and went on to slide deeper into red. Unabated selling across-the-board saw the index tumble to a low of 14,911.

The Sensex finally ended with a hefty loss of 615 points at 14,936 - a drop of 3.96% from the previous day's close. This is the third biggest loss in absolute terms for the index.

The Nifty ended 183 points down at 4,346 - a drop of 4.04% from the previous day's close.

Elsewhere in Aisa, Hong Kong's Hang Seng slumped 730 points to 22,455. Japan's Nikkei plunged 378 points to 16,871. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted index crashed 395 points to 8892, and China's Shanghai Composite index shed 170 points at 4301.
